How to Open HEIC Photos on Windows (Convert to JPG)

iPhones save photos as HEIC to keep files small, but Windows often can't preview or open them without extra codecs. Instead of installing anything, you can convert HEIC to JPG for free right in your browser — here's how.

Why Windows struggles with HEIC

HEIC is Apple's efficient photo format. Windows needs a paid codec from the Store to display it natively, which many people don't have. Converting to JPG or PNG gives you a universal image that opens anywhere — Photos, Word, browsers, upload forms.

Convert HEIC to JPG in 3 steps

  1. 1Open the Convert Image tool on your Windows PC and add your .heic files (drag a whole folder's worth if you like).
  2. 2Choose JPG (or PNG) as the output.
  3. 3Download the converted photos — individually or all together as a ZIP — and they'll open normally on Windows.

No install, fully private

There's nothing to download or install, and no codec to buy. The conversion happens on your device, so your photos are never uploaded. If you'd rather turn the photos into a document, the Image to PDF tool does that too.
